OBSERVATION SUBMISSION

Sky Scanner

On mobile, use the live camera with automatic upward calibration and a lightweight Stellarium-style overlay for stars, constellation lines, aircraft, satellites and major Solar System objects. On desktop, upload the original camera photo for EXIF inspection.

Nothing is published automaticallyLive sensor values stay in the browser while you scan. Observation metadata is attached only when you deliberately submit a photo or recording. Every report waits for administrator approval.

After permission is granted, point the camera at the sky and hold it still for a short automatic calibration. No manual target alignment is used. Live photo and video capture are horizontal only.

ORIGINAL CAMERA FILE

Upload a photo

Choose the original photo from the camera whenever possible. The browser will show available EXIF information before submission. Missing EXIF does not block a report, but verification will be more difficult.

How identification works

Labels are an aid, not a final identification. Aircraft depend on available ADS-B coverage; satellites are calculated from current orbital elements; phone compass/orientation readings can contain error. A missing close match never proves that an observed object is unknown.

The server receives media only after you press Submit for review. It reads verification metadata first, stores a hash of the incoming file, then creates a lighter stored copy. Photos are resized/re-encoded and videos are transcoded to a web-friendly format. The heavy upload is not kept as the normal stored copy.
